I am a pupil of Stag Lane Middle School and I love the school. We have so many subjects they are Art, Literacy, Maths, D.T , History, Science, Geography, Music, P.E and we also have I.C.T. We have good teachers who make learning enjoyable and we also have fun. Can you please tell me what kind of subjects you had in those days? Queensbury is a big place and I recommend you to come back to England. The front door of your old house in Reynolds Drive is still green. Hope to see you soon.

the summer fate was fun-tastic!!!!!!

Stag Lane Primary School was my first school back in 1949...just 60 years ago!
Mrs. Clapp, a dear lady, was my teacher for several years and I have fond memories of this kind, rosy faced lady who taught me how to read and write and do sums.
The bricked up air raid shelters still existed when I was there and although we were forbidden to go near them, of course I enjoyed running up and down the grassy covered shelters at playtime together with my best friend Ian Garmey (now a grandfather in New Zealand).
Summer fetes were great and my mum & dad would help run stalls. Of course, back in those days, every summer day was long and hot!
School dinners were the rule as almost all of the mothers needed to work as times were hard just after the war. We would sit at long tables and the teachers would say grace. Food was basic--often consisting of cottage pie, greens, mashed potatoes and gravy.
Rice pudding was frequently on the menu. It must have been the cheapest rice available (I think they gave it away!) and poor quality milkpowder much watered down. To this day I loathe rice pudding and Stag Lane Primary School dinners were to blame!
I remember that several of my companions had a strange odour which I put down to eating biscuits. Little did I know at the time that it was body odour due to lack of hygiene; the custom in England in those days was to have just one bath a week, and, even if you don't believe me, first my dad would bath, then my mum, then my sister, then me..........one after another, all in the same water!!!
As I sit here in my home in Mexico, I remember that world, now long disappeared. It had its good things and its bad things, but the memories linger on.

thanks for all the fun lessons and wicked clubs we've had!!!

I think this school is wicked and i'm gonna miss it along with some of my friends when we move on to high school. To Miss Heath, Miss Kenyon and Miss Queally, thanks for teaching me!

In 1944 a huge flying bomb (V1 Doodlebug) exploded across the road and sent me flying through the school's front door having run to school late that day with my younger brother Derek J. Watkins b 29-9-1937. It was one day that the head mistress there didn't send all of the school children down into her long concrete tube air-raid shelter. Twelve houses were blown down opposite in Collier Drive/Broomgrove area. One mother was killed and she was the mother of the girl who normally sat beside me. This poor girl was just two hours later taken away by the head teacher, an aunt and an air-raid warden and I never saw her again. I'd like to know who she was as I have forgoten her name.
Do any other ex Stag Lane pupils of the same era remember that Doodle Bug explosion.? Do please email me if you have any info.

I am Base Manager in Years 3 and 4 at Crossflatts Primary School in West Yorkshire and have been lucky enough to have spent this past week on a residential visit to Ingleborough Hall in the Yorskshire Dales. Our Year 4 children shared the Hall with your Year 7 chilldren. Without doubt the Year 7s are the most polite, well-mannered young people I have ever come across. They are a credit to Stag Lane Middle, their teachers and their families. Well done!

I am in Yr4 and i really enjoy this fantastic school.Also I really enjoyed the talent show is was brillant and fantastic I couldn't even emgine how people were so talented and great at dancing, Singing,Comedy.

I thank this School

When I went to this school i was havin the best time of my life, no stress about coursework, exams and other things and not a care in the world. And now I do not have time to relax or even have fun because I am busy with coursework or even revising for exams, A levels can be a pain in the backside sometimes. If I remember correctly I knew the whole of mrs Powells class in year 5, mrs hussains class in year 6 when I was there and also a few teachers who have taught me when I was in this school. If it was not for the teachers who taught me in this school and I would not have found my way round my own path. And so my advice to all the students in the school will be, work hard, enjoy your time in the school, hang on to your friends you have got as well as making new friends and always listen to your teachers because teachers are always right! You may not agree to this now but sometime in the future you will.
And one more thing, I hope Mrs Evans still remembers.

I like the teachers over here especially Mr Salmond.He always teaches us new things but at the same time he makes our lesson more enjoyable. So thank you Mr Salmond.

Well its been nearly 4 weeks since i started Canons, i'm having fun but i do miss stag lane so much. Last year was the best ever being with 7D and Mr Davies. I like alien day but they did prank us but we did have a day to learn because we had to do a report,that was doing
English writing so we were doing a lesson.Using are imagination to think that aliens are coming .

surprised to find this site - just happened to google the school. I went there from 1972 to 1978. Lived on Collier Drive at the time. Have great memories of the school. Head back then was Miss Underwood - Oh I have goosebumps!!

Heyy everyone i was in stag lane like about 2 years ago and i have to say i loved it there it was my only middle and first school and it is the best middle and first school. Looking at Stag Lane web site has brought back many memories, I left in 1977, recieved a Jubilee coin as a memory of the Queens Silver Jubilee celebrations.

I went on to Canons High, then college and during that period married and have 3 grown children of my own.......

My parents and my brother and sister also attended Stag Lane, many many memories for them all...

I now work in Children and Learning here in Luton supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.

Stag Lane is the best school ever!!! I really miss Mrs. Gildersleve she was my best teacher in year 5 and she was really funny. I had a fun time with miss. Kenyon in year 6 as well. I am in year 7 now so this will be my last year of Stag Lane Middle School. I hope this school keeps up their hard work especially year 6, because they have their S.A.T.S in May. When i leave i will really miss this school. I love this school because we do lots of entertaining things e.g. Sports Day, Activity week etc.

It's so great to learn through your website just how well Stag Lane is doing and moving forward. The culture has changed a lot from when I was there! I attended the school up to the age of 10 (in 1981) when we moved from the area. Always have had fond memories of the school and the teachers, I can still visualise the school, classrooms, etc and how it all looked back in the late 70's! Must have changed so much I'm sure! I loved it there. Good luck!

Stag lane is the best school I've ever been to

I hope you do not mind me reminiscing, looking up my old school - I am 65 years old and was a pupil there from 1947-52. The headmaster was Mr Moxon, my class teacher was Mrs Jones and I distinctly remember the caretaker Mr Bevan hauling crates of 1/3rd pint milk bottles around the school for distribution to pupils. I am glad to see it still has a good reputation and pupils obviously love it so much as I have lovely memories of my time there. In my mind I can still walk through the front entrance and find my way to the main hall and my first classroom next to it. I also have fond memories of the wooden 'huts' which although very noisy when pupils moved around before and after lessons, were very cosy and warm.

I am going to miss stag lane middle school so much.I dont want to leave and wish I could stay. Stag Lane don't forget me! Stag Lane is doing a brilliant job on the school site keep it up .
