In the Autumn Term the children and staff debated as to whether there was a place at Stag Lane Middle for a Pupil Parliament. The purpose of this Parliament was to make rules that impact on the children in the playground.
The general consensus was that it was a good idea and therefore the children were asked if they wanted to stand to be a Member of Parliament. The first stage of the process was duly completed and twelve children went through for election.
The children were all given the opportunity to give a presentation to the school so that their peers could judge whether to vote for them or not.
Tensions were running high on Thursday 15th February as this was Election Day and the end of the campaign trail. Everything ran very smoothly with one class at a time coming into the polling station (hall), collecting a ballot paper, going into a booth to cast their vote and then placing their paper in the ballot box.
The votes were duly counted and the results announced in a special assembly on Friday morning. The eight candidates duly elected are Aarti, Anand, Ashwin, Geeta, Haroon, Joanna, Nuran and Rianna. Well done.
