At Stag Lane Middle School we believe that every child is entitled to access a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum in order to achieve high standards. This curriculum should be appropriate to individual children, taking into account their learning needs. In order to accomplish this, teachers keep detailed records of children's achievements and attainments and match work to children's individual abilities wherever possible.
To ensure that individual needs are met, some children may have Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.s). Children who have I.E.Ps are on the School's Special Needs Register. We believe that some children have learning or behavioural needs that require to be addressed with specialist input. The school follows the statutory Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.
We believe that education is a partnership and as such students, parents, class teachers, teaching assistants and the Special Needs C0-ordinator are all involved in the review process. Children's I.E.Ps are reviewed at least twice a year, progress is monitored and new targets are set. a child may be on the Special Needs Register because they are able and gifted and as such require a differentiated curriculum.
We monitor closely the achievement and progress of children who are on the SEN Register. Their progress is compared to all pupils and where this is found to be below expected norms, intervention strategies are put in place in order to boost schievement and success.
If you feel your child has special needs, please inform us as soon as possible so that we can try to meet their needs.
