We provide a broad, creative and challenging curriculum which develops the children’s knowledge, self-confidence and imagination and strongly promote inclusion. This means that we regularly review the curriculum on offer to ensure it is relevant to our pupil population. Extra support is given to very able pupils, those who are new to speaking English and those who find learning difficult.
We lay great emphasis on children’s health and well-being as well as creativity and our curriculum reflects this. All children are taught how to keep healthy and active, basic first aid and resuscitation. In addition, we greatly value the Arts and offer enrichment activities such as dance, drama and music as it gives pupils opportunities to excel in various areas of the curriculum.
We cover Key Stage 2 as well as the first year of Key Stage 3. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, together with the Numeracy and Literacy Strategies. The latter are given a high priority along with Information & Communication Technology. We also study Design & Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Science, Religious Education and Physical Education as well as Modern Foreign Languages across the school.
The children are taught through both cross-curricular themes and individual subjects, as is appropriate. Teachers use a variety of teaching methods according to each child’s needs. Lessons include programmes to extend the most able, as well as helping and encouraging those children who have special needs.
