All three Year 5 classes visited the Thames Barrier as part of the Geography National Curriculum topic Rivers.

The visit included an interactive River of Life game as well as a River Walk.

Both children and staff had a very enjoyable and interesting day out.

On Wednesday 25th April 2007 5C went to The Thames Barrier. We left school and walked to Queensbury Station and got on the Jubilee line all the way to North Greenwich. From there we got the No.146 bus to The Thames Barrier Learning Centre.

At the Thames Barrier Learning Centre we met a lady called Janine who played a River of Life Game with us. It was about the changes the River Thames has gone through from the first early settlers, the Middle Ages, the "stinky" Victorians and finally to the 21st century modern day London.

We went on a Thames Barrier tour with Joel. We were given clipboards, pencils and a Thames Barrier booklet which we had to fill in. We were given some clues by Joel.

We also we had to answer a quiz about The Thames Barrier using a wall which had a map on it. The wall was very wide so children had to run up and down to find the answers.

After a long day it was time to go home. We caught the 146 bus North Greenwich and then got on the Jubilee line back to Queensbury Station. Some children had permission to walk home from the station but the rest of us walked back to school and were collected by our  parents.
